An outstanding venue for any event. The grand homestead set in extensive grounds with a sweeping view over the Hokowhitu Lagoon provides a unique and tranquil setting for weddings and events. On these occasions the whole house is hired, providing exclusivity to the client. A caterer may be chosen from the list attached. Alcohol / beverages may be brought in, along with your own flowers and table decorations. There are two hire periods available: a 5 hour or 10 hour period. In addition, a period of one to two hours is included outside of the hired time for setting up. This is discussed with the manager at the time of booking.
A choice of various areas in the beautiful garden offers suitable venues for the ceremony. Should the weather let us down – then the timber paneled entrance hall provides shelter, warmth and grandeur. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres are provided from the Nannestad Room which opens from the entrance hall and also out into the rose garden. A gift table is laid out in the Woodhey room. Once the ceremony is completed, the bridal party have their photographs taken in the gardens or inside the house. By 6pm the wedding dinner and speeches commence in the Awhina Room upstairs. After the meal guests are invited back downstairs for coffee and wedding cake or the bar and to enjoy music and possibly dancing. There are many uses made of the individual rooms, providing comfortable areas for children, elderly and all in between.
The main difference is the meal. People can choose a continuous supply of fingerfood during the whole afternoon or evening. Alternatively, a spit roast or BBQ can be served in the gardens with cafe style seating both outside and in the Lord Plunket and Strang rooms. The buffet food is set up in the Woodhey room. If this option is chosen, often the ceremony is followed immediately by champagne, speeches and cake cutting (usually in the garden) and then guests socialize whilst the photographs are being taken. Clients can also choose to have only the ceremony (usually accompanied with drinks and nibbles whilst photographs are taken), or alternatively the reception after a church ceremony, hence the 5 hour hire option.
Please note that Caccia Birch House must abide by a Environment Court imposed curfew of 11 pm for guests to leave the property. This means that functions must conclude by 10.30pm in order to give staff half an hour to complete the closing procedures. Our location in a residential area is governed by an Environment Court ruling that requires the noise (music) levels to be monitored and kept to a level not exceeding 40dBA at our boundary. A popular choice for a well-coordinated wedding day is to schedule the ceremony in our lovely gardens between 1.30 to 3.30pm and then to make good use of the outdoors throughout the afternoon. This provides ample time for guests to enjoy each other's company at leisure.
Being so close to the town centre and a host of bars and night clubs means guests can party on elsewhere after 11pm, if required. For more photos, see the Gallery Page.
